Best Facial Oil For Oily Skin To Control Acne and Oiliness

Last Updated on May 30, 2020

Skipping facial oil because you have oily skin? Think again! The Beauty Industry has made us believe oily skinned people need to stay as far away from oils as possible.

But this couldn’t be far from the truth. Using oils on oily skin can actually be beneficial and even help control acne.

There are several fatty acids that play a role in keeping your skin moisturised. The sebum is made up of mostly oleic acid which is greasy in nature. And when your skin overproduces sebum, the skin feels greasy and gets clogged up easily.

Also, excess sebum makes your skin deficient in linoleic acid and hence, using a linoleic acid-rich oil will help balance it out.

Linoleic Acid Oils For Oily Skin

Here are the 5 best linoleic acid-rich oils for oily skin that you should try out if you have oily skin.

  • Rosehip Seed Oil

One of the best oils to use for oily and acne-prone skin. Made from the fruit of Rosa Canina, this oil has a rich orangish colour and is high in linoleic and linolenic acid.

Rosehip oil is well-known for fading scars and hyperpigmentation due to its vitamin A and C content. It is also helpful as an anti-ageing ingredient due to the antioxidants and Vitamin A present in it.

So if you are looking to reduce dark spots from your skin, rosehip seed oil is a wonderful choice to do so. It sinks easily into the skin and is non-greasy too.

  • Hemp Seed Oil

One of the lightest and most nourishing oils to use on oily skin, hemp seed oil is another linoleic acid-rich oil. The gamma-linoleic acid found in hemp seed oil has an anti-inflammatory property which is helpful in treating conditions like acne or eczema.

It has greenish hue due to chlorophyll present in it which also works as an antioxidant to fight free radical damage.

  • Grapeseed Oil

This was the first oil I tried out as a facial oil for my oily skin. It is very easy to spread and makes the skin soft and supple. Grapeseed oil is high in Vitamin E and thus acts as an antioxidant on the skin. It also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that will come in handy while taking care of oily skin.

  • Evening Primrose Oil

Made from the seeds of a summer flower native to Europe, evening primrose is another good facial oil for oily skin. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, the oil is often used to soothe skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and acne.

And since it consists of about 72% of linoleic acid and 8-10% linolenic, it is light and non-greasy on the skin. It can even help counteract drying effect from acne treatments like retinol or salicylic acid

  • Pumpkin Seed Oil

Pumpkin seed oil is rich in Zinc- which helps clear up acne-causing bacteria (source). It also helps combat fine lines, wrinkles, excessive sebum protection.

Pumpkin seed oil is also used for its amazing anti-oxidant properties due to the presence of Vitamin E in it. A good choice for sensitive skin types since it helps soothe the skin.

How To Use Facial Oils For Oily Skin.

With the winter coming up, now is the best time to experiment with facial oils if you have oily skin. Start with 1-2 drops and apply it on damp skin. Applying facial oils on damp skin makes it easier to spread and also increases absorption.

If you still find it greasy or difficult to apply, mix it with some aloe vera gel. This is my favourite way to use it since it also helps hydrate the skin and my skin doesn’t feel greasy at all.

Always use unrefined and cold-pressed oils to get the most benefits the ingredient has to offer. You can buy these oils from the following brands
