Doesn’t a hair spa at home during this lockdown sound super relaxing? With the ongoing monsoon season, our hair is already going through a lot, even though we are at home. From hair fall to dryness and frizzy hair, the stress of working from home and doing household chores is evident and can affect the health of our hair in so many ways.
So here is a step by step at home hair spa routine you can follow for salon-like results. All these steps are effortless and proven to make your hair soft, strong and manageable.
Easy DIY At Home Hair Spa Guide
Step 1- Oil Massage
Start by choosing a hair oil according to your hair type. You can go for light oils like almond or grapeseed if you have an oily scalp, argan oil if you have dry and damaged hair, and so on.
During this lockdown, pretty much any hair oil that you have at home would do the deal. Even coconut oil works! Just make sure to stick to the required quantity, as applying too much oil will require more shampoo to take it off and result in dry hair.
Warm up the oil in the microwave for about 30 seconds before applying it to your scalp and hair lengths.
Detangle your hair and massage the oil really well focusing on the roots of your hair. Leave the oil on your hair for about 30-45 mins.
Step 2- Hot Towel Steaming
Take a bowl of hot water and dip a towel into it. Squeeze out any excess water and wrap the towel on your hair after oiling it.
This will result in a steaming effect and will help the oil seep into your tresses even better. Steaming is an essential step as it also encourages hair growth by improving blood circulation in your scalp.
You don’t need to take a steam every time you apply oil in your hair, just once in 15 days is a good call.
I also recommend buying a microfiber hair wrap for your hair as it is super gentle on your hair and eliminates frizz too.
Step 3- Shampoo
It is crucial to use the right type and quantity of shampoo. Avoid using shampoos which are usually loaded with harsh surfactants such as sulfates. Instead, go with gentler formulas like the Vilvah Goatmilk Shampoo. It is hydrating and removes hair oils well too!

Pro Tip- Never wash your hair with hot water! This makes your hair strands weak and more prone to hair fall. USe lukewarm or cold water instead.
Step 4- Deep Conditioning
No matter what your hair type is, hair conditioning is always a great idea. After washing your hair with a good shampoo, follow it up with a rich nourishing hair masque. The hair masque I recommend is Mamaearth Argan Oil Hair Mask
You can make a home-made deep conditioning mask by mixing equal parts of milk and honey. Let it sit on your hair for about 15-30 mins and rinse it off.
Step 5- Hair Rinse
The final step is to rinse your hair after conditioning it. Hair rinse is supposed to hydrate your hair by providing it rich nutrients. It helps in balancing oil production, calming the frizz and unclogging your hair follicles.
This step also helps impart natural shine to your hair and makes detangling an easier process.
You can try these DIY recipes to make your own hair rinse at home, depending on the ingredients you have at home.
- Mixing 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water
- 1 tbsp of lemon juice in a cup of water
- Brew some tea leaves in hot water and let it cool.
Pour the hair rinse on your hair after conditioning it and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Squeeze out excess water with a towel and let it air dry.
